Whenever I meet someone for the first time and tell them that I own a bail bonds agency in San Diego, they almost always say “I should have your number on speed dial!” In my opinion, it’s a very smart move to have a bail bondsman that you trust on speed dial. Do you have any other ICE (in case of emergency) contacts stored in your phone? Most everyone has their family doctor, attorney or best friend in their phone, just in case.

Why should I have a bail bondsman’s phone number memorized?

Because you just never know what may happen. Maybe you’re at a happy hour and you get pulled over on the way home. Most people don’t know that they don’t have to submit to a field sobriety or breathalyzer test and will get taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. Or maybe you had a stupid fight with your significant other or a roommate. After the O.J. trials, someone has to go to jail in any domestic violence situation, even if the person who called the cops says they didn’t mean to.

Most regular people will have to jump through hoops to be able to accept collect calls on their cell phones.

For instance, if someone is booked in on a DV (domestic violence) charge, then the bondsman can tell them to stay in for two days to wait for their arraignment where the charges will most likely be dropped.
