Is it important to have a bail bonds agency’s phone number on speed dial?

You should definitely have your San Diego bail bondsman on speed dial!Whenever I meet someone for the first time and tell them that I own a bail bonds agency in San Diego, they almost always say “I should have your number on speed dial!”  In my opinion, it’s a very smart move to have a bail bondsman that you trust on speed dial.  Do you have any other ICE (in case of emergency) contacts stored in your phone?  Most everyone has their family doctor, attorney or best friend in their phone, just in case.

Why should I have a bail bondsman’s phone number memorized?

Because you just never know what may happen.  Maybe you’re at a happy hour and you get pulled over on the way home.  Most people don’t know that they don’t have to submit to a field sobriety or breathalyzer test and will get taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.  Or maybe you had a stupid fight with your significant other or a roommate.  After the O.J. trials, someone has to go to jail in any domestic violence situation, even if the person who called the cops says they didn’t mean to.

If you have a bail bondsman’s phone number memorized, then you’ll be able to call him or her from the jail.  Most bail bonds agencies are setup to take collect calls from the jail automatically.  Most regular people will have to jump through hoops to be able to accept collect calls on their cell phones.

If you’re in a San Diego jail (San Diego Central or Las Colinas) then a trusted bondsman can at least answer your questions.  For instance, if someone is booked in on a DV (domestic violence) charge, then the bondsman can tell them to stay in for two days to wait for their arraignment where the charges will most likely be dropped.  This will save the family at least a thousand dollars.  The minimum bail bond in San Diego for DV is $10,000, however it could range as high as $50,000.

A legitimate bail bondsman will always give you upfront advice without trying to sell you on paying for a bail bond when you don’t need to.  No matter if you’ve never had any trouble with the law in the past, it’s always a good idea to have a trusted bail bondsman’s phone number on speed dial, just in case.
